Positively You Challenge and Top 10 Positive Attitude Quotes

October is Positive Attitude Month!

October is known for skin flairs for those of us with eczema, psoriasis, and other skin disorders; Vegetarian Awareness Month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and it is also Positive Attitude Month. Our attitudes are contagious and the energy you give off can affect others, be sure to make your attitude worth catching. Recently, the Adiva Naturals team lost a dear friend and loving pillar of the arts community, Lorna Pinckney. For 15 years, Lorna created an accepting creative space for artists and musicians at Tuesday Verses live performances in Richmond, Virginia and Wednesday Verses in Washington D.C.

Lorna was always smiling, loving and giving even during stressful and troubled times. She embraced love first when she met new people, no one was a stranger. We found her attitude and love to be contagious, as we adopted her life's anthem,"WE LIVE LOVE"!

You is kind You is Smart You is Important

What you think about yourself can lead to your success or failure. "You is Kind. You is Smart. You is Important." a line spoken by Aibileen Clark played by Viola Davis from the movie, The Help; is what we all should think and live by to pave our future. Yes, what you think shapes your attitude and your attitude determines your direction!  Below is one of my favorite stories concerning taking charge of your attitude and purposefully choosing to be happy over life's stresses and troubles.

The Trouble Tree

The carpenter who was hired to help a man restore an old farm house had just finished his first day on the job and everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong. First of all, on his way to work he had a flat tire that cost him an hour’s worth of pay, then his electric saw broke, and after work his old pickup truck refused to start. His new boss volunteered to give him a lift home and the whole way to his house the carpenter sat in stone silence as he stared out his window. Yet on arriving, he invited his boss in for a few minutes to meet his family. As they walked toward the front door, he paused briefly at a small tree, touching the tips of the branches with both hands.

When he opened the door, he underwent an amazing transformation. His tanned face was one big smile as he hugged his two small children and kissed his wife. Afterwards, the man walked his boss to his car to say thank you. Now on their way out of the house, the boss’ curiosity got the best of him so he had to ask the man about the tree on the front porch. He said, I noticed when you came up on the porch before going into your house you stopped and touched the tree, why? “Oh, that’s my trouble tree,” he replied. “I know I can’t stop from having troubles out on the job, but one thing’s for sure – my troubles don’t belong in the house with my wife and children. So I just hang them up on the tree every night when I come home. Then in the morning I pick them up again.”

“Funny thing is,” he smiled, “when I come out in the morning to pick ‘em up, they aren’t nearly as many as I remember hanging up the night before.” -Author Unknown

  • Proverbs 19:21 “Many are the plans in a human heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.” NIV
This scripture helps me to remember that even though my plans may not work out the way I intended them to, they will work out the way God wants them to. It is a reminder for me that God is in control; working even in the mist of my failures and life challenges. This helps me to stay positive.

  • Great article. Next year add Dental Hygiene Month to your October calendar. Dental Hygienists are Professionals that are so under appreciated. Thanks.
